A start to the new season - Self-care for me to

A start to the new season -
Self-care for me today was choosing picture frames for my new (made-over) art studio. I think it’s such a great idea to start a new season (or even a new project) with a little change-around somewhere in my home, that helps me feel new or extra cozy or playful. Whether it’s switching out pillowcases, plants, pictures… those simple things that I can play around with, that I don’t even need to splurge on. I like to even keep a few treasures that I change with the seasons.
It helps remind me that there are seasons for my self-care too. Is it a month of slowing down and extra rest and reflection, alone time? Or more excitement, more social gatherings and events, play and fun? Is it a cozy, stay-home season or the more adventurous-and-challenging-myself-to-new-goals type of season? I’m learning to sit still and listen within, then I’m attentive and aware of what I really need.
Well, these frames are at the moment scattered all over the floor, waiting to be put up on the wall, as I still think & plan out where I want to place each one, and even what I will put into each one.
Each detail of this process is working towards my good for self-care, I know it! It’s taking “me” time, but time is of the essence in this vast lesson of self-care. Giving myself time to choose, make decisions, to imagine, to feel, as I am reminded how important my surroundings are to my well-being.

Self-Care Wishes Granted -
Self-care for me today was allowing myself time to do a little office make-over. Yay, now getting to actually “animate” my doodles from the other day. Not a grandiose/expensive one renovation, but a “looking around my house & picking out what I didn't use anymore in certain spaces” type of make-over.
I didn’t actually buy anything, but transformed my space into my very favorite room of the house, using pieces that were useful & beautiful, trying out a new color palette that I’ve unconsciously been wishing for, for quite some time now.
All my self-care wishes come true today, translated into a cozy/ beautiful and practical office space, now called “my art studio”, my new little haven of peace & joy. I love it! Still plenty of room for evolving and changing and improving, but it feels so great to have started it.
I realized the magical experience of seeing it in my mind first, and letting myself imagine and wish away. It didn’t stop there, cause then I doodled a whole page about what I would love to have. It’s like I imagined myself already there. And one short week later, poof! A little piece of magic happened. Well, I did need to schedule in the time to make it happen. Magic needs our help too, I think. We need to be in the right place at the right time, feeling and thinking the right way... I did do some planning, moving and lifting heavy things around (with dear husband’s help, heehee), cleaning and dusting and decluttering as I went. A few screws nee...

Doodles for Self-Care -
Self-care for me today was doodling in my journal about those things I love or wish for, for my office. I want it to match the new me I’m evolving into & I want to add a little more of me into my space too. So today was me paying more attention to my surroundings, cause I feel that they affect me in such a big way these days.
I ask myself, how can this space be more aligned & accepting & accommodating to me & my self-care today? A lot of ways, it turns out. It’s proof on my doodle page. I’ve envisioned it in my mind, from my heart. That’s the first step. I’m looking forward what these little doodles can do for me & how they will become a reality when the timing is just right. Self-care is letting myself wish & dream this beautiful space.
By the way, if you haven’t tried doodles for your self-care, this is a crazy delightful thing to get into. No great artistic skill needed. No long chunk of time. No planning or perfecting… just plain FUN! In case you’d like to give it a try, I talk more about self-care doodling here:

A Little Self-care Pampering - Self-care for me

A Little Self-care Pampering -
Self-care for me today was taking a little extra time to put on my make-up. Some days I go without it, some days, actually most days I do it as quick as possible, just because I don’t like to spend so much time on myself. But today I needed that little gift of pampering, that little extra blush or eye color to make the inner me sparkle just a tad more. A little extra confidence & shine to those winkles that are just proof of a heart full of joy. And it feels great!
I also decided to wear something totally new and different! New as in that I’ve never paired up my shirt, sweater & shorts this way before. New that it felt like inner me was a little more daring & expressive today, wishing to come out of its shell or willing to give some added flare & creativity to its usual casual style. It still felt so me because it come from within.
And Self-Care is really checking in about everything, even those very physical/practical things. Because it affects how I feel about myself and then what I tell myself and ultimately what I choose to do for myself. Do I treat myself to a little mid-day pause? Do I take a few minutes for some meditation time or for a workout video? Do I deserve an extra piece of chocolate? When I check in and listen to my intuition, I usually get a pretty good idea of what I need in the moment.

Self-care Consumed -
Self-care for me today was the realization that I’m all “self-care” consumed these days, and that’s okay. Any new vocabulary word or new piece of art I create, new idea or inspiration, any added piece of décor to my space, anything I read or fill up on, I ask myself subconsciously, “Does it fit in to my self-care?” or “How does it tie in to my self-care?” I’m “selfishly” making time for my self-care, and that’s a good thing for me. Finally! But I never thought I could ever bring myself to say that.
But I feel really great! And the more consumed & into it I get, the more I feel nourished and excited about life, the more I feel I’m important and of value, the more I figure out what are those things that replenish me, the more I dig in to all that good stuff. And in the end, the more I have to give from my overflows. It’s not anymore wringing out every drop of sacrifice or generosity that I can muster up. It’s not giving and serving and doing until I’m “dead”. Now I get to give from a place of plenty and abundance, from a heart filled with joy. A body and soul nourished with love and compassion.
Self-care, is my unlimited resource of love, joy & beauty. The more time, reflection, play, creativity, meditation and expression that I give it, the more peace, excitement, fulfillment, satisfaction, gentleness, & delight I feel in return. And the more I have of it to share with others. I don’t have to try too hard to do anything, sometimes the very best is even to do...

Painting has been very relaxing for me lately. Sharing just a few recent examples here. Not sticking to any particular style or technique, but just letting myself get inspired as it comes. That's stepping out of my comfort zone for a perfectionist/organized/planned artist as myself, but it's been a great challenge.

High-heels for my Self-care -
What do high-heels and Self-care have in common?
Well, self-care for me today was wearing a pair of high heels that I never wore before. I've been saving them for a “more important” occasion, or for “the perfect” event, and they’ve been sitting on my self for over a year now. So I made today that important occasion and that perfect event, because I decided so.
That’s a strange thing to relate to self-care, I know. Well, I love word pictures or visualizations, object lessons, whatever you want to call it. I’m a kid at heart, as you can see, or maybe I’m just an artist that loves to imagine. Anyway, I sat down and just thought about it some… after wearing those most beautiful heels. It’s true, self-care is like those heels… They lifted me up higher than I thought I could go, as they built me up in confidence. Because who doesn’t look great with a pair of high heels? At least they make ME feel tall and slim and beautiful... Taking care of me at every level, whether it be emotional, practical, mental or spiritual is kind of like putting on those heels. It adds to that level of sophistication.
Part of the dressing/preparing for the day process is deciding on what shoes to wear. Depending on the clothes I’m wearing, what I’m doing, where I’m going, even my mood or the style I feel like…. I take such care to pick out my clothes and shoes for the day, but how often do I ask myself about my self-care practices? Like, which area do I want to focus on today? What do I really ...

My translation of JOY - Self-care for me today

My translation of JOY -
Self-care for me today was looking at JOY just a little differently, and relating it to my self-care journey. JOY spells out for me: Just Open Yourself. Cause I open myself to new thrills, beauties, feelings & experiences, new creations, new ideas, even new little moves forward as I step into new habits for myself as I pay more attention to my self-care, at every level.
It’s a slow mindful process, it’s a pause & reflect attitude, it’s a say “no” to outside voices, but most of all it’s a quiet “checking in” at every bend or turn, and a realization that it’s all good because I’m accepting all of me, whatever stage I’m at. This year is leading me to a better version of myself and I feel so excited to be learning new things because I’m paying attention to my self-care.
So I’m asking myself today, how can I practice more J.O.Y.? What does it mean to leave myself open to the new? And what benefits do I get from doing this? Just thinking about it, brings up oodles of examples of times I left myself open to what I needed, whether it was something tangible or intangible, and how that never failed to welcome in more joy and fulfillment, even new creative ideas for my art.
